Black-Out Writing

One of my favorite little projects to work on! Equipment: a) a book you don't really care about, b) a sharpie. Directions: Black out the words you don't want to make it say something you do want. Preferably something entertaining.

Here's some of my examples:
"The photographer eavesdropped in the original Cape Cod cashbox and asked to strangle the Sheffield and kiss the gay little Rosie Riker in her antiquing clothes."

"Late that evening the abolitionist beecame fascinated by a midnight breakfast, so he went down to enjoy the sparse blessing of snow."

"Santa Claus rents one of our apartments. He's an idiot. He has a personal interest in unnecessary yakking."

"Popopopoulos found disaffection in the murder of the newsman. He was beginning to have an uneasy feeling about the proprietors."

"She presented the heartbreaker to the compassionate outcasts in the bathroom."

....Sharpie away!

Bookshelves

I love Jane Austen!
Her books get a shelf of their very own!

Another group of books I enjoy is The Chronicles of Narnia! C.S. Lewis is a genius!

This here is my "fun" shelf! Mostly fiction and historical fiction.

Liz's Top 5 Books from her Fun Shelf:

The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

A Murder for Her Majesty by Beth Hilgartner

The Scarlet Pimpernell by Baroness Orczy

Then there's my Christian Living Shelf. This is on it's own bookcase that is being used as my nightstand at the moment, so I can keep it close to me. ;)

Liz's Top 5 Books from her Christian Living Shelf:

The Bible by God- The story of creation, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the message of love and redemption.

Dangerous Wonder by Michael Yaconelli- Living out a child-like faith.

Lady in Waiting by Jackie Kendall and Debbie Jones- Becoming God's best while waiting for Mr. Right.

Pro-life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments by Randy Alcorn- Practical, reliable answers to common pro-choice assertions.

Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris- A teenage rebellion against low expectations. Read away! :)

My first cup of coffee!

So I don't drink coffee.
At least I didn't.
But today I did!
So this summer at camp, there were a few coffee...fanatics,
and they were always proclaiming the marvels of coffee.
So I tried some.
It wasn't good.
The kind I tried was not exactly top quality, and I
later found out that another aspiring coffee drinker
had put in about four times the amount of creamer I had.
So today I was meeting some friends at Starbucks, and I arrived
a little earlier than they did, so I stepped up to the counter and
said something along the lines of:
"Hi, I would like some kind of drink with coffee in it,
but also so much sugar and cream that the coffee is not
the main thing hitting my taste buds! What would that be?"
I ended up getting an Iced Caramel Mocha, and I enjoyed it very much,
although I wonder if my coffee-happy friends would consider it "legit" coffee!
We'll see how adventurous we are next time! ;)

Hollyhocks

Ok, yeah, Hollyhocks are pretty, but
They. Are. A. Royal. Pain!
I'm sorry to have to say it, but really!
So at the bottom of those pretty flowers you have...
...and below that, you have these:
A really really thick, long, obnoxious root
that refuses to be *dug* out...
you have to Fight it out!
but finally I wrestled all of them out of the south
side of our house so we can paint....
but they'll be back.
Enough of my complaining though,
here's sone more hollyhocks to leave you
with a prettier picture. :)

North Dakota Scenery

North Dakota...one of the prettiest places ever! (BTW, some of these pictures were taken on my phone's camera...I typically don't condone the use of phone cameras, but I'll use them as a last measure..bear with me please!)

Smokey Hills Resort

The summer camp season is all over.
I'm really going to miss it, and everyone I've
worked with the past two months!
This past week we got to have a staff get-away
at a resort near Park Rapids called Smokey Hills!
It was so much fun! There wasn't a lot of sleep,
but there were a lot of good conversations, games
and activities going on!
